Multi-vendor, distributed vCPE PoC demonstrated at the 2015 OPNFV Summit

Burlingame, California, November 11, 2015 – ClearPath Networks (ClearPath) announced the successful completion of a NFV/SDN Proof of Concept (PoC) with Orange and Intel featured in the PoC Demo Zone at the Open Platform for NFV OPNFV Summit.

ClearPath empowers Communications Services Providers to transform their service delivery model by enabling highly cost effective personalized managed services for Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs), consumers, and mobile subscribers.

ClearPath’s Virtual Services Platform (VSP) orchestrated and managed VPN services spanning North America and Europe running on premise-based COTS and providerside cloud. The PoC features ClearPath’s highly efficient NanoServices that support multiple VNFs in a single NanoService Virtual Container (NVC). The VNFs were service chained at the application-layer (intra-container), simplifying network configuration and permitting dynamic service-insertion.

VSP also provides integrated Virtualized Network Function (VNF) Lifecycle Management and Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, and Security (FCAPS) that provides dynamic service insertion, flexible VNF deployment, and supports a broad range of commercial and open source VNFs.

In the PoC, ClearPath and Orange demonstrated ClearPath’s NanoService Virtual Containers (NVCs), hosting OpenVPN VNFs on Intel x86 COTS-based CPE. Multiple VNFs may be instantiated into a single Linux Containers (LXC), and multiple LXCs can run in a Virtual Machine (VM), to provide isolation and improve performance. VNFs are service chained together at the application layer (intra-container), to simplify network configuration and enable dynamic service insertion. VSP maintains a secure communications channel with each NVC to achieve security and isolation.

ClearPath’s Founder and CEO Cliff Young stated “ClearPath is altering the economics for delivering ETSI NFV Virtualization Network Function (VNF) as a Service (VNFaaS) use cases, including vCPE, by leveraging containers and open source. Our PoC with Orange and Intel opens the door to a new generation of low-cost, personalized services enabling major operators to serve down-market opportunities with SMBs.”

News Highlights:

  • ClearPath teamed up with Orange and Intel to showcase a joint PoC at the 2015 OPNFV Summit that demonstrates secure, distributed vCPE.
  • ClearPath’s NanoServices, open source VNFs, and containers significantly reduce vCPE costs for each end user
  • ClearPath’s VSP integrates VNF Lifecycle and FCAPS management yielding operational flexibility and simultaneously reducing costs
